Avid AVI CoDec

A rather strange codec, it allows for uncompressed as well as various levels of compressed. Compressed is expressed through ratios rather than percentages or data rates (a common method within Avid products and high-end video, but rarely found elsewhere).

I’ve gotten some strange playback errors using uncompressed, and the compressed options are not efficient enough for this codec to be used as a delivery option. Best not to use unless you are transferring material to or from an Avid system, and even then there are better codecs to use.

ASV1 Video Codec,

The Asus Video V1 codec is identified by the FourCC Code ASV1. This code tells the video player which codec is required for playback.

The FourCC Code: ASV1 would require the Asus Video V1 codec.

DivX AntiFreeze 0.4

Sometimes video clips contain invalid frames that cause Media Player to freeze the image. Theoretically player should recover from the problem, but it doesn’t. So image is freezed permanently until clip position is manually changed (by moving position slider). DivX AntiFreeze avoids such freezings

DivX AntiFreeze can be configurably used for DivX and MS MPEG4 (v1, v2, v3) clips.

NB! DivX AntiFreeze just avoids permanent freezings during playback, it does not fix the clip.

Known problems :

– In case of serious errors, video and audio of may get out of sync. Move position slider to resync it.

Changes in DivX AntiFreeze 0.4 :

– Added support for MS MPEG4 (v1, v2, v3) formats.
– Few minor changes.

XviD Codec

XviD 1.2.2
Website: XviD
Status: Freeware
Interface: English
File Size: 871 KB
Operating System: Windows 98/ME/2000/XP/2003/Vista

XviD is a codec meant for the work with video. It is a video codec library that follows the MPEG-4 standard. This MPEG-4 codec is distinguished by the fast speed as well as by good quality of the video image. Xvid codec has been developed on the base of Open-source code. Files, compressed by Xvid codec can be recorded both on CD and DVD and played on a DivX compatible DVD player.

As opposed to DivX codec, which represents proprietary software, developed by DivX, Inc., Xvid is free ware distributed under GNU License (General Public License). This means that as opposed to DivX codec that was released only for Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X platforms, Xvid can be used on all operating systems and platforms, for which the source code codec can be compiled. However the methods of compression, used in MPEG-4, can be patent. Consequently, the use of Xvid in some countries can be illegal.

It is considered that Xvid decoder realizes the most qualitative post-processing of the image. The level of the post-processing is adjusted by hand. There is the ability to add the noise (film effect). The last version of Xvid codec is 1.1.2. At the present moment there 1.2 version of the codec has been developed with the support of several processors.

The most important thing in Xvid codec is the post processing. This decoder can not automatically lower the quality of post processing in case of full booting of the processor. Therefore if you come across with some difficulties with the video playback you should lower the level of the post processing (the power of your processor is not enough for the decoding of a video recording with the selected quality). For this in the section Postprocessing you should switch off the use of one or several algorithms of image processing. In the section FourCC you may switch on the support of video decoding compressed by DivX 4, DivX 5/6 or standard MPEG 4 video.

Supported Input Formats:

1. SVCD,DVD,CDRwin’s .bin image file.

2. AVI file format ASF/WMV/WMA format, QT/MOV/MP4 format.

3. MPEG-1 (VCD) and MPEG-2 (SVCD/DVD/DVB) video.

4. VideoCD, SVCD, DVD, 3ivx, DivX 3/4/5, WMV and even H.264 movies.

5. Windows 7, Vista, Xp supported.

6. Freeware.
