How to Stop Buffering in Streaming Video?

March 28th, 2011 No comments

Buffering is one of the major problems that arise when streaming a video while on the internet. There are many causes for the streaming video problems. There may be issues with the website on which the video is being streamed; even the firewalls can be responsible for the slow streaming and hence buffering. The internet connection can also be behind such problems as a slower connection causes a greater trouble. Obsolete software can sometimes too cause the streaming problems and the hardware plays it part in the buffering problems streaming too. When the hardware such as sound and graphics card is not proper there can be problems related to video streaming. Here are a few methods for ceasing buffering and avoiding video streaming problems.

  • If you find any buffering taking place while the video streaming, you can stop the process and perform it some time later. There may be cases where the websites shut the servers down for the maintenance, thereby causing stalls in the video streaming.
  • If the problem persists the other unnecessary podcast software programs or any other software and video accelerators can be shut down. Start the program again after doing this and the problem may be solved.
  • To stop buffering you can also try this simple step out. Open the Windows Media Player and select “Options” from the “Tools” menu. Now select “Performance” and then “Network Buffering” and “Buffer”.
  • There appears a text box where you can enter 60 or any higher value as per your wish. This may solve the buffering problems but the only issue is that you may have to wait before the video begins to play.
  • To stop buffering of online videos you need to check the connection of your internet. When the internet speed is slow the buffering is bound to occur. You can replace the Dial up internet connection with broadband or DSL services.
  • Having some unnecessary windows open while playing the video may also cause buffering. So make sure all the other windows are closed to stop the buffering of videos.
  • Go to control panel and find “Internet Options” and in the “General” tab select “Delete temporary internet files” and also check the box for “Delete all offline content” and click “OK”.
  • You can also solve the problem by visiting the “Control Panel” and clicking the “Display” option. Move to the “Settings” tab and select “Advanced” and then the “Troubleshoot” option. Bring the hardware acceleration in a disabled state by dragging the slider to the extreme left.

VC1 Codec

December 17th, 2010 No comments

VC1 or Video Codec represents a new video codec VC 1 that has been developing very fast. It was developed by Microsoft for the storing of HDTV video on such carriers of new generation as HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc. The codec in question is based on Windows Media 9 format. VC-1 was released on the 3rd April, 2006. Very often it is regarded as the H.264 alternative. One of the advantages of the standard is the support of the work with the interlacing without conversion in the progressive one. This feature may be attractive for the usage of the standard in the broadcast networks.

VC-1 is the official codec for the Xbox 360 game box. FFmpeg includes the free version of VC-1 decoder.
VC-1 specification includes three codecs that have different FourCC codes.

WMV3
Windows Media Video 9 (WMV3), was developed before putting into operation of VC-1. It corresponds to Simple and Main VC-1 Profiles. This makes WM3 video flow fully compatible with VC-1. When decoding video with progressive and line interlacing there different color spaces – YUV 4:2:0- and less widespread YUV 4:1:1 are used.

It should be noted that high definition films have been released in a format that was called WMV HD that is WMV3 Main Profile @ High Level.

WMVA
WMVA may be called the forerunner of WVC1 and it corresponds to the Advanced Profile for the decoding with high bit rates. It was released together with Windows Media player 10 and Windows Media Format SDK 9.5. There are some differences between WMVA and WVC1.

WVC1
Within the bounds of VC-1 the Advanced Profile means the use of namely WCC1. This decoder is supplied together with Windows Media Player 11.

Elecard MPEG-2 Decoder and Streaming Plugin for Windows Media Player

Size: 2.47 Mb

Operating Systems: Windows All

Download:http://www.pc-codecs.com/index.php/pccodecs__12.html?newsid=89

Elecard MPEG -2 Decoder and Streaming Plugin for Windows Media Player is a set of software components developed by Elecard. It is meant for the demultiplexing and decoding of multi-media data as well as for the receipt and decoding of data-flow broadcasting. MPEG-2 video decoder, also known as DVD decoder, components for the data-flow receipt and demultiplexer that are included in the set are realized on the basis of the proprietary technology Microsoft DirectShow. They are fully compatible with the applications that use this technology.

The use of the technology of the hard-ware based acceleration DXVA, realized in MPEG-2 video decoder, allows lowering of the central processor unit loading significantly. In addition, it allows increasing productivity of the system in whole.

The multiprocessor support ensures the high performance of MPEG-2 decoder when reencoding of video data in real time on powerful personal computers.

Elecard MPEG-2 video decoder supports DVD Subpicture, Closed Captions (DVD, ATSC, DVS157, C-Cube, SCTE).

Install Elecard MPEG-2 Decoder and Streaming Plugin for Windows Media Player and you will be able to play DVD video in multimedia players developed in concordance with DirectShow technology (for instance, Windows Media Player).

XviD Codec

December 7th, 2010 No comments

XviD 1.2.2
Developer: XviD.org
Website: XviD
Status: Freeware
Interface: English
File Size: 871 KB
Operating System: Windows 98/ME/2000/XP/2003/Vista

XviD is a codec meant for the work with video. It is a video codec library that follows the MPEG-4 standard. This MPEG-4 codec is distinguished by the fast speed as well as by good quality of the video image. Xvid codec has been developed on the base of Open-source code. Files, compressed by Xvid codec can be recorded both on CD and DVD and played on a DivX compatible DVD player.

As opposed to DivX codec, which represents proprietary software, developed by DivX, Inc., Xvid is free ware distributed under GNU License (General Public License). This means that as opposed to DivX codec that was released only for Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X platforms, Xvid can be used on all operating systems and platforms, for which the source code codec can be compiled. However the methods of compression, used in MPEG-4, can be patent. Consequently, the use of Xvid in some countries can be illegal.

It is considered that Xvid decoder realizes the most qualitative post-processing of the image. The level of the post-processing is adjusted by hand. There is the ability to add the noise (film effect). The last version of Xvid codec is 1.1.2. At the present moment there 1.2 version of the codec has been developed with the support of several processors.

The most important thing in Xvid codec is the post processing. This decoder can not automatically lower the quality of post processing in case of full booting of the processor. Therefore if you come across with some difficulties with the video playback you should lower the level of the post processing (the power of your processor is not enough for the decoding of a video recording with the selected quality). For this in the section Postprocessing you should switch off the use of one or several algorithms of image processing. In the section FourCC you may switch on the support of video decoding compressed by DivX 4, DivX 5/6 or standard MPEG 4 video.
