Matroska Pack

Description:

The famous full pack, not only for playing matroska media files, but it will also allow playback of most modern video formats on any DirectShow player, even with Windows Mediaplayer 6.4/7/8/9/10. For this reason the Matroska Pack Full has gathered some attention from the video compression scene, and has established itself as a very slim and intelligent alternative to the usually overloaded codec packs out there.

MLC Codec

Description:

MLC is lossless codec using Vfw interface. It uses FCC code MLCY. Codec supports YUY2, YV12, RGB24 and RGB32 color spaces.

All are fully lossles, lossy modes are not implemented.

Freeware.

Midvid JPEG Video Code

Description:

Midvid JPEG Video Codec is primarily meant for archival and editing purposes. It encodes 24bit or 32bit RGB source data only, and outputs in 24bit. The codec encodes every frame as a keyframe so you can scrub back and forth without it ever choking.

This great for editing and scratch table VJs may also enjoy playing around with it for this feature. A fast machine will playback files in realtime, though as mentioned above live performance wasn’t the original idea.

Those of you using formats like RAW to edit and/or store video files will find this codec a much more attractive solution as it makes much smaller files while basically retaining all of the quality.

If you set the quality to 100% you get lossless compression, just like encoding a still image in jpeg format at 100%, but it will still be a factor of 8 or better than uncompressed. At 90% you’re looking at 15 to 1, while the image will still be fantastic.

The codec will auto-detect and use MMX, P2, P3, or P4 instructions if it can.

- The Midivid JPEG codec is Win98/2k compatible.

Google VP8 Video Codec

Description:

Video for Windows and DirectShow codec based on VFW code from XviD project and using libavcodec library from ffmpeg project for compression. Few other compression libraries are supported too.
Latest unofficial versions also supports other compressions like WMW, MPEG1, MPEG2.

CamStudio Lossless Codec

Description:

As usual with beta builds, please only onto a test machine or at the very least one that isn’t “mission critical”

This build fixes the “missing pixels” problem resulting in the recording area dimensions being wrong and not be able to use the appropriate video codecs as well as a fairly serious memory leak (thanks to forum user “mlt” to help us nail it down)

Also CamStudio now runs natively in Windows Vista (and possibly Windows 7) – after installation you shouldn’t have to change Recorder.exe to run in Windows XP Compatibility Mode.

Avid AVI CoDec

Description:

A rather strange codec, it allows for uncompressed as well as various levels of compressed. Compressed is expressed through ratios rather than percentages or data rates (a common method within Avid products and high-end video, but rarely found elsewhere).

I’ve gotten some strange playback errors using uncompressed, and the compressed options are not efficient enough for this codec to be used as a delivery option. Best not to use unless you are transferring material to or from an Avid system, and even then there are better codecs to use.

NEF Codec

Description:

NEF Codec (aka Nikon RAW Codec) is a module that makes Nikon RAW (.NEF: Nikon Electronic Format) image files as easy to work with as JPEG and TIFF images.

Install Procedure :

- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete installation.
* If you have already installed version 1.6.0 or earlier, you will need to uninstall the NEF Codec. You can uninstall earlier versions by following the on-screen instructions provided by this installer.
